Kudo (空道) is a combat sport originating from the combination of full-contact Karate techniques with those of Judo. As such, the sport of Kudo allows for a wide array of combative techniques- from Striking (including Head Butts), Throwing/ Takedown, and Ground-based Submissions. Given this, it is often referred to as "Japanese mixed martial arts (MMA)". A distinguishing feature of Kudo is the use of the "space helmet", called the Neo Head Gear, which provides full protection of the head against incoming strikes. The Kudo program at LHA is focused on full-contact tournament-styled sparring through its appreciation across various tournament formats- from the the MMA-styled ruleset of Kudo to classical bare-knuckle knock-down Karate. The program is run with safety and respect at its core, incorporating protective equipment while upholding traditional Japanese martial arts culture (budo). |
